Position Statement

Why do I want to remain an Ontario Director on our national CIC Board for 2025-2027? It is a great question which deserves an appropriate answer.

I am passionate about Credit Management because our profession is always looking outside the finance function. In providing credit advice, we are asked to provide pragmatic and balanced solutions. I enjoy meeting with internal customers like the sales team, accounting and the procurement departments, as well as external suppliers and customers. Being visible and available to serve others are qualities of a good credit manager. It is these same valuable skills which I bring to our National Board.

With this passion, I have been supporting our Ontario members over the past 2 years, as your current National Director. In this capacity, I am supporting our four regional Chapters with communication and funding from our National Office. To assist our Hamilton Chapter, I presented a CIC webinar on the PCI Security Standard where more than 150 Credit Professionals attended. I worked with the executive at our SWO Chapter to organize a social “Meet and Greet” evening with the faculty and students at the Fanshawe College in London. This successful evening was held in January 2025, with four guest speakers and more than 55 attendees.

I want to build on these recent successes by introducing more college students to our profession. Generative AI and the digital dollar, aka CBDC, are on our financial horizon. We need to prepare and anticipate the impact of these financial changes will have on our profession. I want to work with our national team to develop our plans for anticipating these new financial technologies.

As our financial landscape evolves, the value of good credit management also rises. With your support, I am very keen to play a part in this evolution of our profession.
Thank you for the opportunity to express my position on our profession.

Biography

I currently live and work in Milton, with a passion for Credit Management.

I have been supporting our Ontario members over the past 2 years, as your National Director.  In this capacity, I support our four Chapters with communication and funding from our National Office. This evening was held in January 2025, with four guest speakers and more than 55 attendees.

As a corporate manager, I quickly discovered that my decision-making was incomplete without a good understanding of Credit Management.  Mitigating credit risk crept into many critical facets of my day-to-day business life.  Consequently, becoming a CCP has been the easiest and the best decision I have ever made.

Earning my CCP in 2005, I quickly learned one thing - Credit Management is a concept that is easily understood but a skill that is difficult to execute well.  It is self-evident to me that excellence in Credit Management is an ongoing challenge.  Only by being active in our Institute have I become a better Credit Manager.  For this reason, I continue to support our Institute in many ways:

2007                  CIC published my article Factoring to Minimize Operational Risk.
2010                  Retained by the CIC to develop examination questions.
2011                  Retained by the CIC to present two seminars to the Cdn Apparel Association.
2011 - 2013       Assistant National Treasurer of the CIC to organize our Chapter Reviews.
2013 – 2019      National Treasurer of the CIC.  Developed the CIC’s investment strategy.
2022           Presented a CIC webinar on the PCI Security Standard. 70 members attended.
