President & Dean’s Report
DANA'S ADDRESS TO THE AGM
JUNE 11, 2015
Fellow Members of the Credit Institute of Canada
My name is Dana Swekla and I am a Credit Manager and a proud holder of the CCP designation.
Let me tell you about my CCP journey. Shortly after earning my designation in 1999, I was asked to join the Edmonton Chapter Board. "Just come for a free lunch, no commitment required". What could happen? And so my journey began! I've been volunteering with the CIC ever since. Starting at the local level, I helped with membership, spoke with Finance students and soon becoming Chapter President. Then I came to the National level. For the last six years, six rewarding years, my journey has included being a member of the Board; the last four as Vice President and Chair for the National Educational Committee. I am so honored to now be the President & Dean of the Credit Institute of Canada, so far, this journey has been extremely fulfilling.
It has allowed me the privilege of working alongside many inspiring people, many who have become friends and have mentored me along the way. I have to thank one of them for planting a seed when I first joined the National Board. "It's about time for a woman President & Dean" said Susan English. We were just talking, what could happen? And my journey continued! I'm now the second female to hold this prestigious position, after Carol Breining led the way in 1997; a great inspiration.
I would like to say a special thank you to Mike McPhee, our outgoing President & Dean and my mentor. You have been there for me, lending an ear many a time. Having your support and friendship has meant a lot. I will be proud to follow in your footsteps.
As I continue along on this journey I want you to join me. Like so many designated members, earning my CCP was among my most rewarding achievements. Together we can spread the word about the Credit Institute of Canada.
