About Us

The Atlantic Chapter of the Credit Institute of Canada (The Institute) was founded in 1986. The Chapter was born when Dan Dougherty CCP, Credit Manager of The Shaw Group Limited, and Gary Steeves CCP-Emeritus, Credit Manager of Co-op Atlantic, attended the Institute’s Annual General Meeting in June 1986. At that time, there were no Chapters east of Quebec and this was a concern for an Institute that was hoping to build a truly National body, from coast to coast.  With the support and encouragement of the National Office these two gentlemen undertook the task of building an Atlantic Chapter. The rest as they say is history.  The first meeting took place on November 7,1986 in Halifax with eleven “founding” members in attendance. Formal recognition of the Atlantic Chapter was given by the National Office on January 23,1987. From very humble beginnings the Atlantic Chapter has prospered and grown to what it is today. In 2007, the Atlantic Chapter celebrated its 20th anniversary!
